At The Other Side Village, we’re not just offering roofs over our residents’ heads. We’re giving our villagers something they have lost or may not have ever had — a safe and welcoming community.
Here are five benefits The Other Side Village community will provide for our residents:
Safety and Security
Resident safety and comfort is one of our top priorities. We understand that not everyone may be a good fit for the Village, so our residents will play a key role in the villager screening process as a way to ensure that they will be surrounded by people they can build meaningful relationships with.
As another safety measure, the Village will be gated, with a resident sign-in/sign-out system and cameras throughout the community.
But the biggest factor in safety and security will be our culture of peer accountability. When neighbors look out for each other and hold each other accountable, they provide a level of safety and security to their neighborhood that goes well beyond walls and cameras.
Gathering
Community members enjoy and benefit from connecting with one another. This is why The Other Side Village will provide gathering places for their residents to make memories together, including an amphitheater to watch performances and films, and clubhouses to play games.
Residents will also join together in neighborhood councils where they can create and maintain standards for their neighborhood, celebrate each others’ successes, and support each other when they are in need.
Healthcare
Many new residents will arrive at The Other Side Village with health complications, whether mental or physical. To help these villagers heal, the Village will have an on-site health clinic with experts ready to provide services, including mental health, case management, and dental care.
There will even be veterinary care for our villagers’ furry friends!
Social Enterprises and Community Partnerships
The Other Side Village plans to be financially self-reliant through their many social enterprises, ones that will directly benefit their residents and Village neighbors. Planned enterprises that will be available for the enjoyment of Villagers and visitors include a neighborhood grocery store, restaurant, coffee shop, salon, and barbershop. Villagers will have the opportunity to work at these enterprises if they choose, and every dollar you spend at one of the Village shops will directly benefit the Village and its residents. In fact, every cent of profit will go straight back into keep the Village self-reliant, growing it, and expanding the services offered.
The Village will also provide fantastic community opportunities through local partnerships. There will be a farm where villagers can grow fresh produce, as well as available classes and programs for food prep, yoga, and financial stability.
Work Opportunities
Communities encourage us to be our best selves, and The Other Side Village is no different. So many of our residents arrive with unrealized potential, and our mission is to help every villager thrive as their best self. One of the ways we do this is by offering employment opportunities, even if they’re jobs outside of our Village shops. But having a job is not a requirement to live in our Village. The purpose of these employment services is to provide a sense of accomplishment and belonging, as well as income, and we plan to work with our residents based on individual scope of ability.
