Look Inside the Other Side Village: Making Quality Cottage Homes

The Other Side Village

When building cottage homes, the word “home” is the key.

A lot goes into making a house a home, and the Other Side Village uses a community-based approach to provide much more than four walls and a roof to residents. In order to create a community where people can thrive, it must be centered on homes that provide the comfort and amenities that each of us expects for ourselves.

Enter: cottage homes, complete homes with private bedrooms and bathrooms, furniture, appliances, and most importantly, a strong community based on connecting with others.

What are Cottage Homes?

The Other Side Village features private small residences in neighborhood groupings designed to create a vibrant, thriving community. But what are cottage homes? These beautiful, well-made homes are small but completely outfitted with all the amenities you expect in a home. In other words, it is a safe, permanent place to live in a strong, community setting.

Cottage Home Details

  • 250 to 400 square feet
  • Private space for each resident
  • Fully furnished
  • Each private household will include:
    • Living space
    • Bedroom
    • Private bathroom with full facilities and a shower
    • Kitchen with all appliances

In order to start things off on the right foot, new residents arrive at their homes to a warm welcome: a fridge full of food and a bathroom stocked with toiletries and supplies.

The cottage homes at The Other Side Village are nothing like the transitional tiny homes that are popping up in other communities like LA and Seattle, where shipping containers or outdoor sheds are meant to pass as housing. The good intentions of such communities aren’t enough–creating tiny homes that are destined to become tiny slums is not a long-term solution.

In contrast, The Other Side Village is building quality homes designed to be long-term or permanent, as residents are invited to live there as long as they choose to stay. Instead of using cheap materials and short-term solutions, we are thinking long-term to create a strong neighborhood that is meant to last.

Community and Culture at The Other Side Village

The quality of the homes isn’t the most important factor in the success of The Other Side Village. It’s true that the cottage homes in the Village will be well-made, but the community surrounding the homes is the key, and that’s what makes The Other Side Village unique. Using the same approach as The Other Side Academy, which emphasizes peer connection and responsibility, residents hold each other to the standards of the community.

The community is master-planned to be neighborhood-oriented, bringing residents together for social and recreational activities. Neighbors will work together to keep the neighborhood clean, solve problems, and otherwise take ownership of their community. This inclusion in a community grouping is what elevates the cottage homes at The Other Side Village from physical structures to a social system where everyone is uplifted.

On top of the social environment in the Village, residents will have access to other types of support like medical services, social services, and opportunities for paid enterprises.
